Allow me to introduce myself.

I come from a small, rural town in southwestern Illinois, about 40 minutes from St. Louis. Yearning for a change of scenery, I enrolled at college in a slightly larger, rural town in southwestern Virginia.

I just wrapped up my undergraduate career at Virginia Tech, rewarding me with a very expensive piece of paper saying "Bachelor of Arts in Multimedia Journalism." I also minored in Popular Culture, which is definitely a thing. I take my obsessions into my writing, discussing movies, video games, comics, television and pretty much anything else that would've gotten me shoved in a locker 20 years ago.

This summer I served as News Producer and Anchor for WVTF Public Radio and Radio IQ, a public station and NPR affiliate broadcasting out of Roanoke. I worked with a talented team of reporters who have much more experience than I but who have politely declined to bring that up.

I also do some writing online. Most recently, I began freelancing for Arcade Sushi. I've also done a bit of writing for Creators.co, a kind of blogging platform. Then there's my personal Wordpress blog, Knobbles, which has been a work in progress for a few years now.

In the past, I served as an editor for the Lifestyles section of the Collegiate Times, Virginia Tech's student-run newspaper. I was foolishly allowed to lead a team of staff writers alongside my wonderful co-editor, Samantha Smith. She's still there for the time being.

I've been up close and personal with pop culture through the Virginia Tech Union. Spending one year as director of films and the next as vice president, I've had plenty of experience organizing events, leading committees, and occasionally going on coffee runs for performers. Steve Martin likes black tea, nothing in it, in case you were wondering. This is a great anecdote to bring up at parties, or on self-serving portfolio websites.

I'm always down for an in-depth discussion on the merits of media and narratology (read: I like to argue about stuff that doesn't matter), so feel free to reach out to me.
